My friends, Rob & April, permanent residents of Simi Valley, who already introduced me to 'Louisiane Express" that was a true Cajun eatery run by an older Cajun gentleman, Requiescat in Pace, suggested we trek on over to Greenacres for their BBQ. We didn't bother going inside to look at their raw cuts of meat nor their fresh fish, but headed straight to their outside enclosure that lines the front of the store along Los Angeles Avenue. Greenacres knows its marketing by putting up a tall rack of alluring bags of potato chips and other snack bags just before you approach the order counter. We resisted the temptation and started to look over the menu board that lines the back wall. I ordered the 1/2 rack of pork ribs for $8.95 and 1/2 lb of Tri Tip for about $6.95. The pork ribs were rather short but meaty and probably smoked in a dry rub. The meat was moist enough with a chewy texture. I looked at the meat, and could tell there was a light sign of a red smoke ring. However, my ribs here had an almost undetectable "old" taste that took the edge off the pork ribs. Maybe the uncooked ribs were stored in the freezer too long. The ribs weren't the messy, hot & spicy, dark brown sugar BBQ sauce enriched, succulent ribs found at the once iconic Phillip's BBQ in Leimert Park, but the ribs at Greenacres are probably the best you'll find in all of the Simi Valley. The Tri Tip was another matter. Beef can be a rather fickle meat. Cook it too long & too hot in the wrong way, and you get dry, leathery, dead piece of meat. Cook it too fast and if the meat is not already soft & tender like Ribeye or Filet Mignon, the meat becomes tough, chewy, and inedible. My guess that the Tri Tip here is marinated in a light fruit juice to gently tenderize it. Then it is placed in the BBQ smoker under low, slow heat to maintain moisture in the Tri Tip. The Tri Tip is cut into micro thin wide ribbons. Its almost like Technicolor X-ray tomography where each slice shows how the heat traveled through the meat. The outside is cooked brown but as you travel into the center, the meat starts to look rosier until the center is sunset red. The smoke is subtle yet all pervasive. The meat is moist, meaty, succulent with a nice chaw. The flavour of the Tri Tip is beefy with a touch of sweetness from the marinade. This is one great Tri Tip, and an excellent balance of flavour, texture, smoking technique, visuals. However, don't buy too much of it all at once thinking you'll eat it the next day since the beef changes into an "old flavour" that makes the Tri Tip lose much of its appeal. (I should know since I had some Tri Tip left over the next day.) At the time we were there on Saturday, January 18th at around 2pm, there were silver canister dispensers of 4 different flavours of BBQ sauce: 1) Polynesian was more like a Japanese Teriyaki sauce thickened with possibly corn starch. The main taste component seemed to be mostly Sho-yu (soy sauce) & sugar. This was the mildest of the BBQ sauces. 2) Original was slightly tangy/sweet from a possible addition of black pepper with a slight amount of heat. 3) Bold & Zesty was rather smokey/ sweet some kind of gastrique component coming into play at the end. 4) The BOSS was supposed to be Whiskey Habanero according to Rob, and was sweet, tomatoey, slow burning & a good kick of heat as you progressively kept using The BOSS. For chile heat wussies, The Boss, will kick AZZ. We got back to Rob & April's and were kindly offered a nice jammy Cabernet Sauvignon that was redolent of dried cherries, blackberries, smokiness that had enough tannins with good structure & gentle, balanced acids to tackle the heavy assault of pork & beef of our carnivore intensive meal. Until I explore more of the BBQ meats at Greenacres, my estimation would be 3+ Yelp stars for the present. PS Tried the toasted garlic bread whose spread was not unusual, but the bread itself was Rye which gave the garlic bread a very different, herbal taste from bland white bread.

Green Acres is a local meat and grocery store. They're best in the meat dept with a small grocery. Buy your BBQ ingredients here, you won't be sorry. They also have a side lunch area where you can get some great tritip sandwiches. Look for the BBQ with smoke billowing out onto the road. The staff pays personal attention to both the fresh produce and meat in stock. They're very happy to answer questions and make reccomendations too.

Best BBQ sandwiches in Simi Valley. There menu keeps getting larger and larger. Salads, burritos and more. Of course They have their great market inside with the best butcher shop in the area. Always love going there. Last time I was there, I preordered everything, actually had to change the order the same day. They were very accommodating and had the order ready and correct. While I was there to pick up the order, I happened to see them grilling a burger with a bun that had their famous garlic spread. Can't wait to come back to try it.

I married into a ranching family, and am therefore fully versed in all things cow. In my opinion, the filet is the most overrated cut of beef, while the humble tri tip is the most underrated. It may not be the most tender, but it certainly has the most flavor. I wish that more places outside of central California showcased the tri tip, and am glad to see that Green Acres puts it front and center on their menu. You can order food from either the deli inside, or from the BBQ station out front. I recommend ordering from the deli because you have a larger selection of sides from which to choose (and you can see what the salads actually look like). The tri tip dip, at $7.99, is a true bargain. I recommend getting that, and a side of chili. The tri tip dip is full of moist, flavorful meat which is sandwiched between two pieces of garlic bread. It is delicious on its own, but even better when dipped. I wasn't a huge fan of their BBQ sauces, but the sandwich doesn't need it. The chili is a little on the greasy side, but in a good way. The beet salad from the deli counter wasn't very good, but that's what I get for trying to add some vegetables to my dinner! You can eat outside, or take your food to go, but I recommend eating there to get the full experience. Anyway you choose to do it, the tri tip is sure to impress!

Don't remember when the last time I ate here. So much has changed since I move out. Liking the updated patio dining area. Glad this family business is still in town when I visit. Always friendly and welcoming!!! Ordered for 4: 1 whole chicken, 1lb of tri-tip, large coleslaw, 2 garlic breads and 2 beers Perfect amount for lunch and all under $40 One of my go to spot when I'm in town.

Tri tip burritos are the best!! Remember my Dad going to get meat here for bbqs at home and was always very good. Went inside yesterday and bought a few stuffed pork chops and sausage...and of course their fabulous bbq sauce! I have never cooked their pork chops before, but just went by their directions and they came out incredible!! I'm not a big pork fan, but these are seriously amazing!!

I always enjoy some great tri-tip, and this place does not disappoint. The moment you are pulling up you smell the aroma of great tasting food. The quality and tenderness is felt the second you put one of their great sandwiches in your mouth. If its the tri-tip, chicken, or any of their other great meats, you will not be disappointed. They also have a store that has fresh meat and fish that you can take to grill at home marinated or non marinated. The service is great as their staff will make sure your needs are met. Parking is in their lot and a non issue.

Legit BBQ! Gotta love the tri tip and baby back ribs! Real BBQ! A must eat for any bbq lover!

Absolutely delicious BBQ! And a variety of sauces, including super spicy. Very casual/rustic atmosphere that is wonderful for larger groups or kids & pets (they are very dog friendly - which usually speaks very highly of their food, in my experience). I generally get a bbq chicken sandwich or a bbq tri-tip. I hear they cater and are top-notch in that regard as well.

A grocery store with a small town feel but a huge selection. The quality of their products is very good. I am glad we stopped in today for our first time. we will definitely do more shopping here.

If you live in Simi Valley and have not been to green acres, you have not enjoyed what your city has to offer. This place draws you in with the scent and traps you with the food. Definitely a good place to check out.

This place is the bomb. Their grilled meats are affordable and delicious, and fresh off the grill. Gleefully prep for meat sweats. I ate an entire rotisserie chicken. I wish I was lying. It was that good. Prices are affordable and atmosphere is down-home, real-deal glorious hole-in-the-wall comfortable. The Boss sauce lives up to it's name...I want to take a bath in it. As much as I'd like to keep this place to myself, I have to highly recommend.

I had family coming over and really didn't feel like cooking , so we ordered the meal for 7-9.. It came with Pork & Beef Ribs, Tri tip , a salad , and beans. It was delicious and everyone was happy but not as happy as me since I didn't have to cook it!

I've grown up in Simi. I have driven by Green Acres and seen the smoke fly off their grill too many times to count. It has to be thousands. Somehow up to this point I never managed to stop. Never managed to be like "Hey, why not lunch at Green Acres?" That changed today. I'm happy it did. I stood outside in line during peek lunch hours on my break from class. There were a lot of things to order, a lot of things I wanted to try, but I figured that I needed to start with something simple and standard. The tri-tip sammich. After ordering I took some cups of their custom BBQ sauces and sat down in their nifty little out door area. It was actually really nice and cozy. I sat there with my music waiting enjoying the vibe, and the sun. When I got my sandwich, that did not disapoint at all. Great meat that I continued to try new and diffrent sauces with. Most were stelar. The only negative point about the sandwich is that I wish it was not on their garlic roll. Now normally on a menu if I see "served on garlic roll" that perks my eyes up and I get excited. However here their garlic seasoning has fennel seeds in it. Boy do I hate fennel seeds. Two or three times I got a good bite of one and the devilish flavor came through, at which point I had to drown it out with their sauce. On a while tho, I am really happy that today I made a change in my life. I added Green Acres to my mental list of Simi food, and I'm very happy about that.

I have been coming here for 2 years now, same good quality if not better, the cheese burger is the best grilled burger in the area. The bbq pork sandwich is awesome. The market sells cold cut sandwiches and all are super great. I tried the frozen burger from the market but wasn't the same taste as they grill outside. It's always busy but the service is good and quickly.

  • David B.

Been coming here for many years. Always good. Usually get the sandwiches but recently tried their cheeseburger and was surprised by the added flavor and very juicy. Also tried the bbq chicken salad and have to say that it's the best one I've had. Their chicken is much better than Red's BBQ as well, imo.

  • Jonathan C.

Ive only tried a few items here. The tri-tip salad, the tri-tip on garlic roll, and the tri-tip burrito. After careful evaluation, the burrito takes the gold, the sandwich takes the silver and salad takes the bronze medal. Went with my boy E earlier today, he sampled all 4 of the bbq sauces. Hes a true SauceBoss that guy. Anywho, the outdoor seating is great when its not too hot, or not too windy. Or else you have to hold on to your napkins for dear life when the wind blows. I'd recommend getting a cold one, really helps you wash the meat down. Also, if you are into 'Cados, throw it in the burrito, it really adds life to it.

I've been going this place for years, so I thought it was about time I leave a review. So first of all there are three ways to enjoy this place offers and all three get a 5 star from me. First, they have a deli inside and a BBQ grill out front... Both offer fresh sandwiches and sides AND are phenomenonal. They are most famous for their tri tip sandwiches. The bread is covered in herb goodness, tender slices of tri tip and your choice of bbq sauce to dip it in. Oh I get it with provolone cheese, mmm. Second, the market. Today my hubby wanted a good steak and a baked potato, so I went into the market and they had everything I needed for a delicious dinner. My hubby BBQed the 2lb pre marinated chuck steak, while I threw the twice baked cheddar & broccoli potato in the oven and pulled the cheese & garlic pasta salad out of the fridge. All this for under $30 and fed 3 of us! The guy behind the counter was amazingly helpful! OK and last, they cater! Yes this amazing meat market will bring their amazingness to your event. I've had it many times because anyone thats lived in Simi for more than a day knows this is the place to use if you need catering!

5 stars for the employees 3 stars for the food. I was visiting my mom at the hospital nearby and found Green Acres on Yelp. Cool little country market, they treat everyone nicely. As a matter of fact when i was checking out i saw the cashier give someone $4 to cover a grocery bill that he didn't have enough cash for and i believe that she didn't know him. I had the tri-tip sandwich and it was a bit small but the meat was good, paid $10 for a drink and sandwich, it wasn't bad just didn't stand out.

WOW! The hubby and I kept meaning to try this place, and we finally did last weekend. What a great little store and what an awesome fish market/meat market/deli. I did a little shopping and also ordered carry out sandwiches and a salad. I had the BBQ chopped salad with tri tip (although I ordered it with chicken, but the guy made it with tri tip and in the end I am glad he did as it was fabulous)...this is one of the best salads ever. The dill dressing is out of this world. I want to go back and see if they sell it in a bottle like they do with their bbq sauces. Hubby had the tri tip sandwich and he loved it. Prices are excellent for the value provided. Staff is super friendly, the place is spotlessly clean.

This is the Best overall Farm to Table Market and grocery store I have ever been to!!! There Tri Tip Dip sandwich is to die for and my wife had a pulled pork salad that she is still craving!! This place has been here over 40 years and it is still ran by the original owner!! Absolutely Fantastic!!!

Oh Green Acres!! You know the way to my heart is through my stomach right? I have been going to Green Acres for years, I used to live down the street and drool every day when they turned on that BBQ. This place is just one of kind. If you're looking for a good BBQ place for lunch this is your spot, if your looking for good quality meat for a BBQ you're hosting this is your spot, if your looking for someone to cater an event well....this is your spot. The variety of meat and fish are wonderful and so fresh. They offer twice baked potatoes, macaroni salad, slaw and all the great traditional sides. They also have a mini grocery store that is generously stocked with wine. I'm telling you one. stop. shop! I'm not much of a fish lover but have been trying to broaden my horizons and introduce my toddler to fish as well. My husband bought farm grown salmon from here on Sunday. FANTASTIC! So fresh and good....yet again another great dinner from Green Acres. I've never had bad service here. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. And I just found out IF (big if) I ever go hunting I can bring my meat in and they will slice it and season it for me! I highly recommend this place to anyone that's a BBQ lover or just plain food lover in general! :)

Amazing ribs baby back sweet, moist, delicious, meaty --- fast service cooked today very fresh - high-quality meat. Sides are great - love the pasta with cheese and garlic. Yum. Friendly fast helpful staff... Love this place!!!!! Don't go to Red's for ribs or tri trip - just horrible. And Green Acres are half the price!

When we told the woman running this place we'd come from Burbank to try out their sour dill pickles she laughed at us. When we told the guy who first told us about the place's pickles, he laughed at us too. So it's a bit much to drive out to this spot from L.A. when in effect you can get anything else they sell much closer, but hey, I enjoy an adventure and the pickles were good... Besides, this is the type of small business you just want to succeed and which needs all the support it can get in the days of "do everything, but nothing well" Walmart and KMart dominance. The deli section is well stocked of Boar's Head meats and various cheeses, they have all you convenience store and market necessities and though she laughed at us, the older woman working there was friendly and sweet. I won't quite say I'll be back, I guess that would be a little ridiculous, but if Simi Valley isn't a foreign locale for you, come on out.

The tri-tip sandwich on garlic bread is the best!!!!

  • Chris K.

This place rocks! Their sandwiches are so thick and fresh, and the deli meat they use is top notch, hence the price. I ordered some simple sliced swiss cheese and it was a HUGE difference, just because the brand is far superior. Almost everything in this store is organic, all the meats are cage free/free range/organic/grain fed!!! WOW!! Their bbq is awesome, they have some of the best sauce I have ever had. The service is great too!

  • Karen M.

Green Acre's is a great grocery store. True their common items like spaghetti is a little pricey compared to the grocery stores, but their meat, their service, their deli is beyond excellent. They are very accommodating and if you are in a rush and just want a quick dinner, their bbq outside the grocery store has great tri-tip burritos!

  • Giorgio B.

Good meat selection and good quality, however the rest of the grocery store is a bit pricey.

this place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. There tri tip sandwhiches and beans, so good! great in the summer because they have the misters on the patio!

  • Laura W.

The tri tip sandwiches are beyond amazing. The selection of sauces is the perfect amount and wonderful flavors. The outdoor casual seating fits just right with style and counter service. They now have beer, which is great, and burgers. The service is quick and efficient, not incredibly interactive but it's counter service so they don't necessarily need to be. Getting to the bathroom is a fun and interesting journey through the market inside. It's back by the meat counter in the far corner and you have to go through the black service doors. I frequent this location, it is one of the best eateries in all of Simi Valley.

  • Jen L.

Love the tri tip in all forms. Burrito, sandwich, by itself. Love the sides: garlic pasta salad, potato salads( all kinds) Great BBQ sauces You can still get the food inside even if the exterior is closed.

Where do i start Yumm Tri tip sandwich, or burrito amazing all fresh prices are reasonable... Also have their own stone attached

I love to support places like this rather than big chain stores. The problem with chain stores is quality goes down. Seems like that with food and employees. Here the employees are always willing to help and answer all your questions. And the grill outside where you can get fresh off the grill food can't be beat. I drive past many stores just to come here for the service and quality. This place is top notch.

  • John W.

Our family stops here for burgers on the patio when we can. Have never been disappointed. I honestly believe this is the best burger in all of SoCal. Love the patio, comfortable, great smells wafting around, and the glass partition which separates fast moving, sometimes loud traffic from a comfortable gathering place. Add in an occasional train across the street and it's an interesting. fun place to munch and socialize.

I discovered this place after recently moving to Simi. The meats are incredible. What a selection. The food for take away is so delicious and have great portions. We cannot pass by without getting something from the deli. This is the quintessential, perfect, meat market in town. They have a nice dining area outside when the weather is nice - which, in Simi, is every day. You will not be disappointed. Love the name, too.

  • T B.

Been coming here a long time but HOLY GOD stay away from the grilled hamburgers that are being served outside for lunch. Its a new menu item. Just had one on 3/21/14. It was probably one of the worst burgers Ive had. Zero taste, super soggy bread from the juices, completely uncooked and bloody inside. My co worker had one as well and he too was extremely disappointed. It was utterly gross. I still give this place 5 stars. Stick with the anything else on the menu. Oh, the market inside ROCKS!!

Really great spot in Simi Valley. This place is both a market and BBQ spot. As soon as you drive up you can smell the fresh smell of BBQ. This review is only for the sandwich that I tried there but I did do a quick walk around the market and they have a lot of good stuff. The best thing about this place is the vast amount of meat they have. All types of beef to choose from! Any meat lover or BBQ fan would love this place as there is so many choices. I had the tri-tip sandwich which was amazing. Meat was tender and the BBQ sauce went perfectly with the sandwich. I will definitely be coming back here when I am in the area.

One of my absolute favorite places to shop and eat lunch! The fresh potato salad, pasta salads and kabobs are all awesome to take home for BBQ and of course the tri-tips! But my favorite thing to do is go to the outdoor BBQ they have and get a sandwich or BBQ chicken Caesar salad for lunch. They are super fast, cheap and made fresh per order.

I am a huge fan of Green Acres BBQ. Its to bad they are only open for lunch. Our office staff goes at least once a week for lunch and we all love it. The Tri Tip is REALLY good if you like Santa Maria style BBQ. I would always order the Tri Tip sandwich until I tried the Tri Tip burrito. WOW, one of the best burritos I have had. Their BBQ sauces are also really tasty and if you like spicy their new Habanero sauce is great. Also, the market and meat counter offer some top quality meats and produce. Not many family owned farm markets left around these days. I would also suggest trying their garlic bread spread you can purchase to make garlic bread at home. They also sell their Tri Tip seasoning. All in all you cant go wrong with anything from Green Acres.

Really great food ambiance casual and the tritium dip sandwich is just a great choice. The BBq beans good. Deli plus a market all fresh and good taste. A great choice for lunch.

It was fast, delicious and fresh. Tried the 1/2 BBQ Chicken. Have to say the Garlic Roll is amazingly delicious!! :) Is a very small place but is just perfect for a quick stop or just to enjoy amazing BBQ food. Employees are super friendly and the places is very clean. Will sure return again :)

The sides look homemade but when I asked they brought out a huge 25 pound buckets. How hard would it be for them to make their own bucket of macaroni salad? The chicken, no matter what you get is dry, dry, dry, makes you want to cry, cry, cry. The chicken sandwiches are the biggest disappointment.

I love love love this market. The people are friendly and quite helpful. The meats are wonderful and there are so many choices! The salads are very tasty as are their sandwiches! I love the BBQ tri tip. Not to be missed!

  • Brian B.

Stopped in here for a quick bite while I was in the area, and the Yelp reviews promised a "foodgasm" from the tri tip. The tri tip did not disappoint, but the chili was the climax of my night. It's not spicy at all, but it was the best chili I have ever had, hands down. I'm now looking for any excuse to go to Simi Valley again just so I can order a chili burger. The service was great as well, and the choices of BBQ sauce were awesome. I also took a peek inside the store and am going to have to pick up some produce the next time I'm there as well. Thank you yelpers for recommending this place!

Ordered pork rib rib single on saturday afternoon. The rib was cold and to my surprise it not cooked fully. I mean this is pork rib, it should be cooked thoroughly for safety. For 15 bucks, I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Love this place! It's been open for as long as I can remember. Have enjoyed numerous meals here. Too many to count. Not only is their fresh sandwiches AMAZING but they have a great market inside as well! Love going in here when I get some extra cash to 'splurge' on some fancier meats and whatnot! Bottom line, if I could eat/shop here everyday.... I probably would!

  • Stan W.

Grrreeeeeen Acres is the place for me! The intoxicating smells from the daily outdoor BBQ should be enough for anyone to stop by and get a tri-tip sandwich. The BBQ beef and BBQ pork sandwiches are also great choices especially since all of them come on garlic bread! Inside the market you'll find a small grocery store filled with the norms except the meat department is nearly half of the inventory. Trust me, I'm not complaining. Rows of steaks, seafood, chicken, deli goodies, and prepared dinner options line the enclosed refrigerated cases. So if your looking a place with a great selection of meat or a great place for BBQ, Green Acres might be the place for you. BTW, the teriyaki jerky is amazing!

  • Beau A.

Best bbq and food in Simi Valley. Tri-tip sandwich is number one. Their bbq sauces are top notch. Everyone goes to green acres. And a fun fact, if you go hunting and get a pig or buck, they can butcher it for you. Although, around the back of the store. Not through the grocery. And they sell boar's head meat products. Best hot dogs a person could buy.

Delicious sandwiches! You can smell this place for blocks before you see it. So good. Sandwiches don't come super fast- 10 minutes maybe, but they taste Fresh and delicious. A+

I love this place! I've lived in Simi for about 17 years and I've always gone here to get BBQ! I love that they cook the meat out in the open and they have great flavor on all their food. I also like the market inside!! All the meat is full of flavor.

  • Bill K.

One of the best meat markets I've had the pleasure of shopping at. Everything I've purchased here has been outstanding. I notice some reviewers claim it's pricey and I get what they're saying; you can certainly save a buck or two at Von's or Costco. But I think the quality here is worth every penny. Plus great service by people who know their stuff and how to prepare it. The meatloaf mix is a staple around our house. Highly recommended. The outdoor barbecue is also excellent. I've only had the tri-tip sandwich and the tri-tip burrito, because they're both so darn good I just haven't had the urge to try anything else. The burrito is a bigger meal; the sandwich is just about perfect for a lunch that fills you up, but doesn't weigh you down. Can't lose either way.

I've lived in Simi Valley for almost 25 years. Green Acres still stands. It wasn't until earlier this year, one of my old managers from LA told me about this "bomb" place where I used to live. Yeah...I've been missing out. The Tri Tip sandwiches are good and their BBQ sauce complimentary. I actually order the Tri Tip Burrito because it's much larger than the sandwich. I just can't bring myself to give this place the 5th star because sometimes, there just isn't enough meat. As a Professional Fat Kid, I hate (HATE) leaving places hungry. A sandwich just doesn't do it for me. The burrito gets me there, but for the money I'm paying, I better damn satisfied. Well if you look at it, I'm 4/5 satisfied. Good food, great meat quality (try the Prime Rib Thursday-Sunday) and I'll definitely come back, but not for when I'm starving.

Whenever I drive by this place, even with windows up, the incredible BBQ aroma blasts through the air vents to travel up my nose, which then forces out of my mouth, "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah" or "Mmmmmmmmmmm." Yesterday, my husband and I drove into Green Acres' lot and got out of the car. I cannot begin to tell you how strong an aroma blast we got this time, but now, it was almost overwhelming as we approached their outdoor grill area. I COULD HAVE just stood there and inhaled the fragrant bouquet of various meats thrown on the grill.......but I didn't. Instead, I did something about it and placed an order for their chicken dinner. I really wish I ate beef or pork because I know they probably taste far better than any chicken does, but for one reason or another, I don't eat them (aside from ground beef). So, chicken it is. While the chicken was moist and had some BBQ flavor, the real flavor comes from the BBQ sauce they provide. This isn't a dry rub kinda place. Nor do they slather BBQ sauce all over the meats/chicken as they cook......no, it's do it yourself when you get the food, which, by the way, is served IMMEDIATELY. By the time I got my condiments and drink, that food was on the table. Pronto quick !! Back to the chicken.......I had their original BBQ sauce, and it was thick with just a hint of fire, mostly a great balance of sweet and smoky. It made the chicken taste so darn good. The chicken was ALMOST a little dry, but I said ALMOST. It really was fine to eat. My husband got their pork ribs, and he thought he had died and gone to hog heaven. He truly loved them. He said they were incredibly meaty and tasty, and he loved the BBQ sauce (he got the original, too). What was a real unexpected surprise is that every dinner comes with a small container of chili, which I thought was OUTSTANDING. I could have done without the beans and would have preferred it just be the ground beef, tomatoes and sauce, but the beans didn't hurt it either. But the flavor, man oh man, it was delicious.......lots of spices, a little bit of "fire," and oh so flavorful. Now that I think about it, maybe I won't get the chicken next time and just get the chili, which is saying something for me, considering I don't really eat beef. The garlic bread was interesting, and I can say I've never had it this way before. Aside from a liquid garlic base on the bread, they sprinkled on top of that poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and even rye seeds. I'm not sure I really liked all the seeds on it, but it was unique, if nothing else. Garlic flavor on the bread was definitely noticeable, but because the bread was cold by the time I remembered to eat it, that kind of ruined it for me (my fault, not theirs). I tasted 2 of their sides......potato salad and cole slaw. The cole slaw was fine, a slight hint of sweetness, but not too much. The potato salad was not my favorite as it was the "relish kind," so a little sweetness there, too, but with potato salad, I don't like that. I like it with mayo, celery, seasoned salt, hard-boiled egg, and of course, the potatoes......it's more of a traditional recipe, and that's my preference. That being said, I could tell, this potato salad was fresh. Neither it nor the cole slaw had been sitting for days.....both very fresh. The seating was very pleasant, and because it was on the warm side, they had misters blowing....those made it so cool....very nice. We will DEFINITELY be back to this place. Next time, I want to check out their market (I forgot to yesterday).

Awesome Tri Tipp Sandwich, tastes as good as it smells when your driving by. Coleslaw is fresh. Great customer service. A little pricey for the size of the sandwich.

Wife loves the salads, and I get the tri-tip sandwich which is usually pretty awesome, but this time I got 2 sandwiches, and both looked like they had been sitting for a while. The bread was soggy. The meat was very fatty, and some looked borderline undercooked, with some pieces looking discolored. It was later in the day so I assume that was the reason, but that is really no excuse. I know a lot of people don't mind the gristle, but for that price, it should really be much leaner. QC missed the mark this time. Really tarnished my feelings about going there in the future. Plenty of BBQ joints in Simi to go to now. Hope they step their game up...

This is the only place to buy a tri-tip. We get them here almost every other week let them season it for us and put it on the rotisserie for an hour. Best tri-tip ever. They also have some excellent chicken Assad, twice baked potatoes, garlic and cheese pasta salad. I could go on forever. Everything here has always been excellent. Their BBQ is great too. Best BBQ beef sandwiches.

This review is two-fold..as I am rating both the catering and the sandwiches. I'll start with the catering. We recently place an order for approximately 12 adults and asked the person how much chili, tri-tip and pork ribs we would need to feed that many people with sides, etc. It was recommended that we have 5 lbs. of chili, 4 full racks of ribs and 5.5 lbs. of tri-tip. First and foremost, this amount of food was WAY too much even for 12 hungry adults - we barely even came close to eating 1/2 of what was ordered, so needless to say we had leftovers for days. Aside from the miscalculation of the amount of food, we were extremely disappointed with the temperature and quality of the food. We asked to pick the order up at 5:30PM and when we arrived at 5:40PM, we had to wait about five minutes after being helped to have someone "find" our order - which was sitting under a heat lamp right in front of us the whole time. The food wasn't even hot enough for us to have to worry about holding the aluminum tins while waiting to check out. While I certainly don't expect food to be piping hot, it should have at least been warm to the touch. We transported the food about two miles and when we opened the lids, the food was room temperature at best. We also were shocked to find that we did not have any BBQ sauce included with our order (apparently they were supposed to ask us if we wanted that when we picked it up...we assumed that the BBQ was in the covered tins as a side container). When we called to ask about the sauce, they were happy to accommodate us, however they provided a small container of approximately 5 oz. My daughter is the one that offered to pick the sauce up, so she didn't realize that the amount they prepared would certainly not be enough for the amount of meat we had. Perhaps had the meat not been dry and what I consider overcooked for tri-tip, the sauce probably wouldn't have been an issue. Perhaps had the meats been better, we wouldn't have had the amount of leftovers that we did. The meats were so dry that after the BBQ sauce was gone, guests were putting chili on the meats to try and moisten them. Needless to say the fact that we dropped $200 on low quality food was really disappointing. All of the above was extremely disappointing since we have been a fan of their tri-tip sandwiches for years. I'm not sure if they have a new cook or if they are tightening the reins on their sandwiches due to the economy, but the last couple of times we have purchased our sandwiches, the consistency and amount of meat varies. At times the bread will be perfectly grilled with a good portion of meat, while others times it seems as though they were in a hurry and you are left with soggy bread with just enough meat to create a single layer. Overall, it seems as though what was once one of our top spots for tri-tip has started to go downhill. I certainly would NOT use their catering service and again, and for an $8 sandwich, I can think of lots of other places to go that provide a consistent experience.

This is by far one of the best grocery stores in Simi. I've been shopping here over the last 30 years. Nothing is cheap here. If you want great quality this is your place. Curbside BBQ aroma will make you stop in.

Way better than what people tell you! It's a super clean small BBQ place on one side and an awesome super market on the other side. Some things I really loved was the huge selection of ready to cook meats - check out the super thick bacon, the single serving wines perfect for a picnic, and fresh vegetables. I also love that there were about 5 kinds of potato salad because no one really wants to eat one kind! There is a roomy outdoors only eating area so bring a sweatshirt if you get chilly.

This is only based on the wine tasting. Located in the Green Acres parking lot, it is not very big. Came here on a Tuesday and it is very popular. They have 7 or so tastings that are placed outside next to the store. There are several benches. They have a fun little quiz you can take And when you take your sheet that has all the wines that are going to be tasted, has a scoring system and then it has a number on the bottom. If your number is called then you wine their special BBQ sauce. They had two sets of food options. The first set of food was cheese, meat, chocolate and grapes. The second was a macaroni salad and a BBQ sandwich. I think the sandwich could have had a little more sauce, but other than that, the meat was tender! I heard they have BBQs here, I wouldn't mind trying that! There are tons of other options at their deli that I heard are very good, despite the price, it is worth it.

Have eaten here about four bazillion times and have never been disappointed. Order anything, it doesn't matter, its all good; from the chicken to the tri-tip, Green Acres knows it's BBQ. They cater too, and we have used them at work for holiday gatherings and have enjoyed all of the meats and sides. Green Acres you rock!

Fantastic!! I said when we were invited to our dear friends' wedding in Moorpark to be catered by Green Acres. Staff were on time and worked so hard to be incredibly efficient in setting up and interacting so sweetly with all us guests. Food was stunning- we already loved their tritip and other chicken, salads, steak, potatoes, veggies, breads and all the scrumptious sauces. This was a great afternoon given the flawless and professional performance of everyone from Green Acres!!

This place has legitimate street-cred here in Simi Valley and for good reason. If you read any of the other reviews you will learn just how delicious their smoked and barbecued meats are. Suffice to say that their sandwiches are consistently good, but there is something else that sets them apart from most other barbecue places. It's their sides. They're ridiculous. Listen, a lot of places can take a nice cut of meat, season it well, slow cook it over some smokey coals, and serve it on a soft toasted bun with some delicious barbecue sauce, but its a whole other thing to completely rock every one of your side orders. That's were most other places fall down. Green Acres sides are consistently good. The macaroni salad is the best ever. The baked beans, the bomb. The potato salad, unique and tasty as all-get-out. the chili, I once saw a man brought to tears by his last bite of chili (plot twist, I was actually seeing my own reflection in a nearby window). To use a baseball analogy, every one of their sides is a line-drive into the gap in right-center field. There is not a tricky hop single on the menu. They're so good in this genre they can come off a little cocky, with their crisp greetings, pleasant smiles and big-screen LCD menu board. They could use a little comeuppance. I'm shaving a star just to keep them humble. Until they humble up, they will remain #2 on my Simi Sandwich list. Get it together Green Acres!

Been going here for over 6 years and have always been happy with the food. It's always been my go to spot for a healthy(but tasty) low carb lunch: the half chicken (of course, with left overs for the following day), I LOVED this chicken. About six months ago they updated several pre made and BBQ items, including their salad bar and even added items like hamburgers to the menu, giving great improvements. My reason, however, for two stars is the chicken. I've retried it SEVERAL times with no luck. It's been so terrible that the first time I got it, I called to ask if I could've been given an old chicken.. I was assured that the chicken wasn't spoiled and notified that they simply changed the recipe. It's been months since then and have gone back and reordered it or tried some of a friend's in hopes it was a fluke.. it has consistently had a funky rancid taste, and been painfully dry (as if reheated more than once). Because of this change, I only come here for the fish department now

No one quite knows if they are taking numbers for service or not taking numbers for service. So you just wait around while the men behind the counter look at each other. It is clear they want to help people with meat orders, but not the deli counter. With the prices they charge you should not have to ask to get service.

This place has always been very good and recently they put out a new sandwich the pork tenderloin which for some odd reason decided to remove it from the menu? Why make something good and then take it away. I went back this weekend in hopes that they would bring it back and sure enough it was a disappointment. I will no longer be coming back until they bring back the Pork tenderloin sandwich. THE TRI TIP IS OLD AND BORING CHANGE IT UP.....

Outstanding customer service deserves recognition. This update is about the market, not the grill. The market carries some of the highest quality meat I've seen. I don't eat a lot of meat, but when I do, I want a good steak. I bought two filets mignon last Saturday with the intention of grilling them that evening. Unfortunately a family emergency changed the plans and the steaks sat in the fridge for 7 days. On the 5th day they started to smell bad and I thought it was unreasonable for the meat to deteriorate so quickly. I brought the package back and the manager explained that because the meat they sell has no added hormones or preservatives that the shelf life isn't very long. I'm not a food scientist nor do I want to research it, but what he said made sense to me and I appreciated the education. What made the experience exemplary was that he replaced the steaks anyhow! I'm already a steady customer and I recommend you become one, too

Went here for the first time. Three of us shared a rack and a half of the pork ribs. There are a few styles of ribs out there and these ones were really good dry rubbed ones. You put the sauce on at your table. They have a nice serve yourself sauce selection. Ribs were not the fall off the bone type but were smokey good! I really liked this place and will be returning to try their other tasty meats. Very nice staff, clean areas and fast service. Glad I went!

*This review is specifically for the patio BBQ Green Acres is definitely my favorite sandwich in Simi Valley. I usually get the Tri Tip Sandwich and throw some Whisky Habanero (The Boss) sauce on top to give it some heat. The bread is grilled and the tri tip is sliced thin and tender. It is a simple sandwich but sometimes simplicity is what makes it perfect. Other days I get the Cajun Sausage Sandwich. They add grilled onions and peppers with the grilled roll and it's amazing. I've heard some complaints about the street noise and the train but it's to be expected when you eat outside. A while back they removed the table umbrellas and put up a roof. Heat lamps for when it's cold and water mist for the heat. If that's not accommodating, I don't know what is. The staff is always friendly and food comes out fast. Today they brought my sandwich out before I even sat down and the food has never been better.

Green Acres has always been top notch. A couple of months ago they added Burgers to their Menu. I have to say ...By far the BEST Burgers in town. If you like Blue Cheese order it on the Burger...WOW Good Price and good Size. No way I could finish their double Burger. Nice job GA.

I come here from time to time to get my tri tip sandwich fix, my only complaint is they have them premade, so every now and then they can be a little dry. Other than that, if you want to bbq they have the Best quality meats in town.

This is where I stop on my way home from work to browse, drool, and pick out some seriously inspirational cuts of beef. Whether I'm planning on firing up some top porterhouses on the outdoor barbecue, frying up some spicy Italian sausages for spaghetti, or basting a gorgeous slab of chuck shoulder in the slow cooker all day -- the Green Acres butcher selections always hit the mark.

Legendary! IT be you getting you cut from the market or sitting down to eat all there food is AMAZING! The Tri tip is to die for, there Burgers are what a burger should look and taste like. Friendly and helpful staff. All there meats are amazing!

  • Sabrina M.

We ate dinner at the patio BBQ on a whim last night and we both loved the tri-tip sandwiches. The meat was served sans sauce so that you can choose your own flavor. My husband and I created our own mini BBQ sauce tasting with the four options they had out for us... yummy! For me the bread was nothing to write home about despite the many other positives yelps about it, to each their own. I will return during a weekday with our son, there are train tracks across the street that the patio looks out towards and he will LOVE it. We didn't try the butcher counter inside, but we will. There were almost a dozen different types of sausages... Can't wait!

Omg!!!!! This place is ridiculous. As a rule, I don't eat red meat. I just don't like it. But the rest of my huge family goes nuts over great BBQ...and every time we come here I always try some of whatever my hubby & kids are eating. I swear, I'm almost converted. It's that good. I either get their BBQ chicken sandwich (love that their BBQ sauce isn't too sweet) or a sub that can rival my favorite italian deli- bay cities. Coming here is such a treat, especially in a town that has very limited options for truly great food. I'm from LA and used to a lot of variety, so the food scene in simi is pretty limited to me. But whatever... Simi has green acres.

My wife and I have been buying our meats here for 10 years. We had then cater our wedding reception. This is a first class old time meet market. The lunch area has awesome sandwiches. In the meats our favorites are the tri tip with the Green Acres rub and the Teriyaki Spencer Steaks.

Green acres is a local small market and butcher shop. They carry some of the highest quality meats, sides, and fish in the area. They also BBQ their own meats and serve various cuts and sandwiches right there on site. Their tri tip sandwich is the best I have ever had. Yes it is a little pricey and you have to look for deals and be careful with your selections, but the extra 10 or 15 percent price is well worth it. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially the checker yesterday. They have Boar's Head cold cuts as well and some really delicious pasta salads as well. They also have an outside eating area and a counter that sells various BBQ selections. This is a signature Simi Valley location and worth the visit if you are in town.

This review is mainly for the outside bbq stand. I like having the market to grab extras for my large to go order but I come for the bbq. The sausages and steaks are to die for. But I don't always like to cook it at home soooooo......thats why we hit the bbq stand so often. You can smell the smoke and bbq a block away. I love love love the dry rub babyback ribs. I don't like sauced ribs that much and they do them perfectly. The tri tip is also stellar. And my dad adores their bbq beans. A great take out for grubbing at home. They have NEVER messed up my order. Don't forget to get your own sauces to go in small containers around the corner from the register.

Every single time I go here I get the beef ribs and it never disappoints. Forsure the best ribs I've had in my entire life. I highly recommend this place to all of my meat lovers out there who appreciate a good BBQ.

This review is based on the BBQ chopped salad and my overall impression of the place. This might be the 4th place I've tried this salad at and so far, nobody beats Woodranch's. Red's come's 2nd. Didn't need anything in the market area but it looks cool. The area where you eat is ok. You got up to the cashier order and pay. They bring out the food to you.

Inside, Green Acres has a lot of fresh meat, produce and groceries for a small market. Outside, great tri-tip and bbq beef sandwiches here. Sides are good also. Only drawback is a lot of flies in the patio area and dining right on a busy street with high traffic.

Love this place! Fresh meats and sides. I go for my luncheon meat every week. I've noticed they have started to add already prepared meals to their deli which I love. Outdoor BBQ is great - try the tri-tip burrito!

I normally go here for meats which are always fresh. They have a big selection of meats and seafood. About a month ago, I also tried their outside eating area that offers a good selection of sandwiches, plates, and salads. I ordered two plates, one was the chicken plate and the other was the tri tip plate. Both were good tasting. I will try their sandwiches next which they seem to be their specialty.

We came here with our friend, who's been a patron for many years. We tried the Trip Tip and Chicken Dinner. They were both delicious. If I had to choose between the 2 I woudn't hesitate to go with the Tri Tip. It was flavorful and tender. What I also liked was the fact that they do not put sauce all over your food. There's a variety of their house sauces and they range for spicy to original to spicy. If the heat level is enough for you, then there's also some appropriate garlic chipotle hot sauce to go on top. The side of chili beans that came with our dinners was not to miss! It's practically a cup of chili and the accompanying coleslaw was just perfect. Too bad this place is so far, as I would frequent it more often if it was just a short drive away. I guess I'll leave it for those special trips out to Simi Valley.

I did not want to do this, but, when you serve dry unseasoned BBQ pork ribs then this is what you get 1star - I have been going here to the market for 10 plus years and they rock on all other things they make. I called them and told them about the ribs they were kind and cool about it, but said they make them that bad for people who have food allergies - so they, the minority gets dry nasty ribs over the majority who want tender flavorefull smoky BBQ ribs - I recommended a tasty dry rub, and for them to mop the ribs during cooking for a great BBQ rib, but they will most likely do nothing about it :) With that said, I give 4.5 stars on their tri tip and all there market food - see pics of the nasty dry ribs, there the ones that look grey and dry :) - Bui

This is more about the customer service, the food here is excellent, I placed a phone call order for a salad the gentlemen said he was having trouble hearing me, granted still seemed to hear great and clear repeating my order back to me, he told me he didn't need my number. I told the gentlemen id be on my way to come pick my lunch up in 10-15min, when I arrived I asked about my Togo order needless to say a bald gentlemen. Hispanic I believe told me he took my order but didn't make it because he didn't know if I wanted a small or large lol, I really didn't say much I just turned around and walked out, as I had to get back to work, working in the service industry myself I felt that was POOR customer service, I come once a week and it seems too me they generally are alright but not excellent in that department, I always consider it might not be your day and were all human beings but I felt it was unacceptable to not make someone's Togo order because you didn't know wether to make it large or small, I called to explain to the manager Patrick about the situation as I felt talking to the gentlemen who didn't make my order wouldn't get me anywhere but frustrated

If I'm entertaining guests that I want to impress (especially Europeans), I bring them to Green Acres and allow them to pick out their dinner. This is basically a way to offer a fine dining experience in the comforts in your own home. The choices of meats and the way they're presented are just unmatched at any grocery store (including Trader Joes). You can't really go wrong here, but if you really want to impress a steak eater, get the Spencer cut. The filets are also perfect. Ask the butcher to pick you a good one and then they go digging for you. The tri-tip never fails and you can request a rub at no additional charge. All the sides you need to complete your meal (including wine) are here as well. It's a touch pricey, but you're paying for quality. If you're picking up dinner, go at lunch time and have a tri tip sandwich. They smoke up the entire street just teasing you to give into your senses. My office has also hired them for catering. They set up shop and cooked on site. The service food and pricing was just perfect. They helped make our event very successful and the food was the talk of the party. Just a great neighborhood find. I'm glad that I don't live too far away.

This is about as good as it gets for fresh and well cut meat. I have had their pork chops that are about 2" thick, the sirloin ground beef and the steaks! They are the best around. Yes Ralphs Supermarket is down the street, but you will NOT find cuts like this there. I found beef stew cubes there that made the perfect Kabob's. The manager Pat is incredibly helpful as are all the folks behind the meat counter. Enjoy the steaks!

Amazing market with fresh produce, meats, and deli products and a staff that makes you feel like family. They have the best meats in Simi and the widest selection of fresh cold cuts and cheeses, along with an array of delicious made-in-house foods. Also the counter outside I would have to say has the best burgers in Simi, it beats them all. My favorite hometown market.

What an exhilarating market- before you walk in you smell the most fantastic BBQ pulling you into one of the sweetest meat markets I've seen. Everything has it's place. The fruits and vegetables are fresh and beautiful. The condiments are hand selected to meet up with that New York Strip or Alaskan Salmon you will be grilling. Woohoo, I catch myself singing the TV show song "Green Acres" every time I drive close by. Who ever decided on that name had some marketing smarts. I will shop there when ever I am craving a great piece of meat and that's most every week!

You have to love Green Acres. Great food, quality meets, willing to help. As an example, I use a pellet smoker for my slow cooking. It needs little wood pellets to burn to make smoke/heat. Anyhow, they usually sell them, but were out. I talked to a guy on like Wednesday and he said they would get a new pallet of them there Saturday AM. I header over there on Saturday and they didn't come that day, but one of the guys went to the back and found a box with a few ripped bags of pellets. He gave them to me as he wouldn't be able to sell them. Just really great people.

I only had the tri tip sandwich and a soda so I can't give this place a 5-star rating without having more of the menu. It's a grocery store that has a bbq smoker on the side of it. We ate at the side area, it is all outdoor seating. It was shady and because it was a hot day, it was nice to sit outside. The sandwich was great, the meat was tender, the bun was toasted and the sauce was fetch. I should have gotten a couple of side items but I went along with the group and only had a sandwich. Call me a lemming. I would go back if this weren't an hour drive for me.

My wife & I had driven by this place for years, always saying "we should go there one day" but never stopped. GREAT SCOTT, were we dumb for not going to this place sooner. The place is always jam packed but that's a great thing and the food is so good, I don't mind. They've got a really friendly staff and it's take-a-number style so you don't have irritating lines to stand it - you're free to browse the produce while you wait. The big selling point of this place is it's BBQ grill. The smoke wafting all over Los Angeles Ave is the best calling card for this place. We've never gone there on anything BUT a weekend because the BBQ is THEE thing to go there for - at least in our opinion. I myself am not a meat eater but everyone else in my family is and they love it and the vegetarian sandwich is the best in town. My wife swears by their ribs. It's a great place to go solo or to bring a family.

TOP NOTCH BBQ. I HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MARKET. I have been going there about 15 years and each time am blown away. They have amazing sauces to choose from, that you can purchase as well... the chicken is to die for, my boyfriend loves the tri tip.... the market has some unique items you cant find at other stores. This will always be a family favorite

I traveled through out the US and I have to say this place is the best! It's in our own back yard and they have the best BBQ by far than most places that claim to have good BBQ. I usually don't eat pork ribs not my favorite but I will make an exception when it comes to this place. The BBQ pork ribs are really great. My favorite is the brisket sandwich. Try it is really good. The brisket is tender and sliced thin just right. Awesome place!!!!

This is the second time I've come here and the food never disappoints. It's an outdoor locale next to a grocery but it's better than any of the in house BBQ restaurants in the area. I suggest the tri tip but really everything is good. Awesome habanero BBQ sauce!

I had Green Acres cater my Wedding and I Honestly cannot COMPLIMENT them enough!! This was THE BEST FOOD AND SERVICE I could ask for. They actually complimented my Wedding. ALL my guess were so Happy about the food, appetizers and service they gave, My guess thought they were friends of the family. They all wanted there Business card to use them in the future. Chris was the person we deal with from the first phone call. He was very pleasant to deal with and did exactly what we agreed on and some to make this event go professionally and smooth. Its obvious that Chris has experience in Catering events and it show here for my wedding. I would have to say that Chris and his staff perform over our expectations and this post is my way of thanking him and his group. We also want to let all who reads this to expect the best from Chris since he will exceed your expectations. (hopefully this does not put more pressure on Chris) I just saw another post from one of our guess who was at my wedding.

When it comes to tri-tip I am very picky. I always went to recommended places; but the meat was either to hard or no flavor. I was told to go to Green Acres... By far one of the best places. The meat is tender with a lot of flavor, you can tell its fresh. Not to forget to mention the bbq sauces they have! Everything "Hit the Spot"! I would go there in a heart beat, very enjoyable place including the customer service =D

While I would readily give the quality of their food 4-5 stars, this concerns their large order & catering services. Based on several experiences spaced out over many months, I have yet to get an order filled correctly the first attempt or prepared at the time promised. It seems the only sure way of successfully putting together a large order or catering order is to just stand there and repeat every detail of it across the counter, then wait for as long as it takes for preparation. My other attempts at pre-ordering by phone or even in person have failed. They typically begin working on your order about the time it was promised, so you really accomplish nothing by trying to pre-order. This latest time I spent a good while trying to pick up a 12 sandwich preorder, only to have them begin after I arrived for pickup, and of course much of it wrong. This time I gave up and went elsewhere, got what I needed and back home well before they would have gotten it together. No thanks. I'd stop in there for a sandwich for lunch, but for any type of event ordering, you're taking your chances.

I love green acres, if you need a sandwich on the go, or are looking to BBQ, they have it all. Daily new meats specials, they also make great kabobs and burger patties to make at home. The ONLY reason I didnt give all 5, is the tri tip can tend to be fatty at times, ate their yesterday though and everything was great!

If I find myself in Simi around lunch time I know it is always a good bet to stop by Green Acres for a BBQ sandwich. It is always right off the grill and perfectly pleasing. If you like good, simple, outdoor cooking I guaranty you will enjoy this place. Check it out!

A carnivore's dream and a vegan's nightmare... for years I have driven by this place smelling the outdoor hickory bbqs grilling up tri-tips and today I finally stopped to grab a tri-tip and check out the market. I was overwhelmed by the selection of meats, chicken, and sausages. If I had room in the freezer I would have bought some steaks but I will be back for sure because the sandwich was very tasty. Flavorful and tender thinly sliced tri-tip piled and wedged between two pieces of garlic bread mmmmm it was good the one thing I would have added would be a side of au jus to dip the sandwich in but that is just personal preference.

  • Amy S.

Tri Tip sandwich please! Seriously, the best of the best! I have never gotten anything else here so all I can say is that this sandwich is amazing. The guys at the grill are always smiling and you can sit out on the patio and enjoy the smell of barbeque while you enjoy your meal. Can't really lose here.

Love it, darn great BBQ tri-tip sandwich and BBQ pull pork sandwich, great sauces, and sides were wonderful (to die for macaroni salad). Policeman hangout, must be a good stop cause cops know the places to go. Market is a true butcher shop, wonder selections of everything. I was excited to be there and I will defiantly return for food and some shopping. I don't handout 5 stars often, this place is impressive.

Came here for lunch with some friends today. I waited in the line that always seems to be there at lunchtime. I decided upon the chicken breast sandwich and a side of garlic bread. The guy was nice and helpful. The chicken breast sandwich was tasty. The sandwich was on the grilled garlic bread. The grilled garlic bread was new and interesting. The large meal cost about 8 bucks. So it's a good deal. After eating we perused the little store they've got over there. Lots of meat. My friends bought bread and sliced turkey and olives and stuff for sandwiches for their lunch. I noted some pre-prepared stuff which would be good for me. Stuff I could take home and just pop in the oven. They had chicken schnitzels, chicken cordon blue, and a pretty big selection of pre-marinated stuff which would be great for an easy dinner. Oh ya, and Pork Butt is on sale this week.

We have been eating at the patio for years. The food is great quality and freshly prepared. I'm a low-carber so I always pretty much get the same thing to share with my family: a whole roasted chicken ($9) and the tri-tip green salad ($9). Great value for what you get, and it is a lot of food.

I have driven by this place many times and saw the outdoor bbq smoke and after watching a show about bbq on tv, I decided to go to Green Acres. Boy was that a good call. The show was about bbq ribs, so I ordered the baby back ribs at the outdoor patio, along with bbq baked beans and potato salad. The food came fast and after opting for their original bbq sauce, dug in. The ribs were very tender, one of them with falling off the bone meat. The baked beans were of the right sweetness and tenderness and the potato salad was very creamy (I liked the crunch of the little bits of celery). Safe to say I will be going back often.

Great find in Simi which seems to have many BBQ choices. Stopped here in between games of a softball tourney. When we pulled up, there was a line. Good because lines are a good sign, bad because we were limited on time. The restaurant is outside and more like a food stand with outdoor seating. Food came out super fast. I guess when you know you're going to get slammed every weekend, you're prepared for that. I got the tri tip and she got the pulled pork with slaw on top. Each were good, a little small, but you can't beat the price, $6! We're a little biased because we've had great BBQ. The sauces they have, and sell, were awesome. We got the original and the bold sauce. I couldn't pick a clear winner as the best so I would mix up my sandwich dunks between the both. The macaroni salad was different than the normal mayonnaise drenched stuff. Wish we had more time to explore the market attached to the place. I guess we'll just have to go back.

Every time I pass Green Acres it takes every piece of my willpower to not stop for a tri tip sandwich every single time. Green Acres is only one of the few in Simi Valley that make it special. It's small, quaint market is something that makes it a Simi Valley jewel. I like it so much that we are using them for catering next week. I hope they always stick around.

The tri tip sandwich is one of the best I have had so far better than Stone Fire. Sandwich is on garlic bread toasted with tri tip and bbq sauce just plain and simple but that's all you need. You have to add extra bbq sauce and there own green acre hot sauce to kick it up a notch. They also have a small grocery store and a huge meat counter selection inside and deli. I believe there open Mon-Sat, closed Sundays. And close at 7pm.

Amazing meat selection. Whenever we crave steaks, I always buy filet mignons from here. They also have amazing hickory smoked bacon, stuffed baked potatoes, and awesome chicken and tri-tip burritos. The staff is attentive and helpful! Can be a bit pricey, but it's worth the quality!

Love the food. It sounds weird because I am a vegetarian and this is a meat market but they have the best bean and cheese burritos ever!! they will also make you a reuben minus the corned beef and they have a nice selection of salads to choose from. The staff are always friendly and always remember my name! Pat and Patsy are the best!!

Fresh foods for when you are planning a bbq or a picnic. They can be a little pricey if you are going for anything in the actual food isles because they are small, but their cheeses, deli area and potato salads are fairly priced. This place has been here forever, its a staple of Simi Valley! I am a vegetarian so I can't necessarily give an opinion on their meats, but my boyfriend says its the best tri trip sandwhich in Simi Valley bar none! I love to support local mom and pop shops, and this is one worth supporting!

It's definitely one of food places in Simi Valley! The workers in there are very friendly. You will feel the warmth of its unique settings. They serve well quality of tri-tip sandwiches and their BBQ sauces cannot be skipped. The food is a little pricey by a dollar or two but it's still worth. Don't get their milestones soup. It's nothing special and pretty expensive for a superb small size.

Excellent Market and Food Stop. Price: Great 5/5 Taste: Great 5/5 Time to get food: 5/5 (cooked after ordering) Environment: 4.5/5 (Went on a windy day, but they can't control that.. so the 0.5 is more just my fault). Overall: 5/5 If you want to BBQ at home I would suggest going inside their market and checking out the selection. I recommend anything Boar's Head brand.

First let's talk market--IF I was blessed enough to be able to own a market THIS is what it would be. Small, yes, but quality is undeniable! Are you gonna pay a bit more, heck yeah but truth is you get what you pay for! The seafood and meat products as far as I am concerned are second to none. The produce I'm purchased has always been the best tasting, best quality I've ever used. The service is absolutely fantastic. Now let's talk to-go food. I know of people who SWEAR this is the best BBQ anwhere. Well, I'm from the south and we know BBQ. This, for being in California, is decent. I do not necessarily find the tri-tip to be all that flavorful and I think they count on the various BBQ sauces to do the work that I'd like the meat to do. My kids love the ribs although I'd love it if they were not quite so done--I like a bit more juice to my ribs. The chicken is done very well--I will give rave reviews for that as well as the sausages. I am only a few blocks away from this location and every time I drive by it's an experience in aromatherapy to smell the Santa Maria style BBQ's going full bore. (Did I mention I used to live near Santa Maria for a number of years so they are definitely doing that right.) NOT fancy. NOT the best there is BUT if you're craving BBQ it is a safe bet. That being said, when you want to cook something with QUALITY at your own home, the market is most definitely the place to go for your cooking needs!

I don't know why I haven't written a review for this place yet. I've been here a number of times in the past. The trip-tip sandwiches here are second to none. If you are in the Simi area, this is a definite must visit. My wife and I only order the tri-tip here, although I have had the chicken before. The tri-tip sandwich comes on a grilled french roll with spices and butter grilled in. Sometimes, it is a little charred, but most of the time, it's grilled just right. They only have outdoor seating, which can get warm in the summer, especially in the Simi sun. If you order take out, it's best to eat it ASAP as the bread tastes best while still crispy and warm. We no longer live in the area, but when we are even in the vicinity, we always stop by to grab a couple sandwiches. Worth the visit if you're in the area... even worth a drive to this restaurant if you're in the Ventura area or in the valley.

As we were driving down Los Angeles Avenue, we noticed some smoke. "Oh, they're barbecuing... smells good." The next time we saw this, we said "Oh, we need to check this place out." A few months passed and we were on our way to grab lunch on a lazy Saturday afternoon and drove right passed Green Acres. Suddenly, my husband made a u-turn and said "let's go check this place out." We quickly figured out how to place an order outside and went in the store to check out the produce and wide assortment of "meats" behind the counter. Although the prices were higher than what you normally expect to pay, the quality was clearly top-notch. We set our eyes on the stuffed bell peppers and decided to try them for dinner. Back outside, our sandwiches were ready and we helped ourselves to the bbq sauces. It was DELICIOUS! We were pleasantly surprised that a place like this exists in Simi. Since that initial visit, we have been back a few times. We have also tried their marinated chicken to bbq ourselves and the Cajun sausages for a family bbq and they too were impressed!

There is good reason the reviews are so high, this place is awesome! All of the BBQ fare is delicious! The meat counter is second to none in Simi Valley... With fresh meat arriving daily, and the prices are reasonable. This is a must visit if you are in simi - come hungry!

Tri-Tip sandwich goodness...no sauce needed. Bonus point for patio with cooling misters. Ahhhh! Excellent lunch. The market itself is super cute and the meat counter is to die for! I soooo wish we had something like this near me in the LBC. I would never shop at Von's again.

My husband and I tried this place out for the first time today and loved it! We shared the tri-tip sandwich and pulled pork sandwich which were both delicious (I preferred the pulled pork). The soda fountain was out so that was a little disappointing, but hey things happen! All in all very satisfied.

Always loved Green Acres for the market to pick up a good, really good quality meat for dinner. Recently discovered their deli counter for sandwiches. A way better price and WAY WAY better quality than a subway. Why wouldnt you get your lunch here. They use Boars Head, which, if you didnt know it, is a really nice quality deli manufacturer

I literally eat here five days a week at work. I am starting to explore the menu outside and i love their sandwiches inside. Outside I mainly get the tri tip burrito and the tri tip sandys and they are both great. The burrito to me is more flavorful and more bang for your buck. The sandwich really needs BBQ sauce and doesnt have a lot of meat on it, I always pay more for more meat. Another plus when eating outside is you always get free BBQ smoke cologne, the ladys love it. Inside the I always get sandys and theyre always amazing! I am a sucker for deli sandys though. I never got meat here but I always ending up staring and day dreaming over all the different types of meat that they have here. Theyve been in business for decades and their meat is def why. I personally have used the meat from the inside but can easily tell that their cuts are choice and the meat screams quality. The staff here is great! Really gives a home town feeling to the place and always very helpful, and everytime im inside theyre always giving good advice on how to prep and cook the meats. Bottom line I heart this place and obviously enjoy eating here daily. Its my go to spot during the work week.

  • Bob S.

Tri Tip sandwich wasn't bad, but way too thin for "tri tip". Also, at $6.99 for sandwich only, really bad value. In order to get sandwich, beans, coleslaw would put you at around $9.99, way to expensive considering is just average at best especially compared with San Fernando Valley, LA, Hollywood, etc. You can go to many other restaurants get a combo with drink for about a buck more. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

$10 for the tri tip dinner. Worth every penny. I eat here often. In fact, I had lunch here today. Parking can be a little challenging around lunch time so try to get there early. I highly recommend their chili. There's no indoor tables so get it To-Go on a crappy day (rare in Simi). Hands down, best BBQ in Simi Valley. Put it in your face.

I'd love to start with an Eva Gabor joke or sing the Green Acres theme song, but I'll resist. Green Acres Farm Market boasts "Santa Maria Style BBQ" on their trucks and as you drive in to the parking lot the smoke hints that they've got it down. Outdoor BBQ, tons of smoke, and tri tip roasting on the fire. I stepped from our car and went to line up with the other patrons.... BBQ smoke blowing in my face and something wasn't quite right. I've been to Santa Maria. I grew up near Santa Maria. It's what we did for fundraisers in school. This ain't it. The smoke smelled wrong. And the Tri Tip Sandwich was ok, but not amazing. The problem is places, trying to replicate the fantastic success of Santa Maria's patented tri tip, slice the meat too thin and don't grill it properly. I'd probably go again, but I expect a serviceable sandwich, nothing more.

4 stars: Yay! I'm a fan. After a few failed attempts to get food here, we finally figured it out. First of all, as soon as you get out of the car, the smell of BBQ just hits you in the parking lot like a speeding Mack truck. Wow. They could charge a quarter just to smell the parking lot and people would probably pay. I'd like to bottle that smell and crack it open from time to time when I'm craving the smoky sweet taste of BBQ done right. So anyways, this is what we figured out. They run out of things fairly quickly on weekends. Hence the failed attempts to eat here. So we got smart, went early, and got a bunch of items to go. Beef ribs, pork ribs, tri tip burrito, those bbq beans, that chili, garlic bread, the whole nine. Got home, grubbed, and immediately made plans to go back again; and soon! It's pretty well organized inside; they've clearly experienced being busy, and have figured out how to get people in and out. With that said, it might still be quite frenetic in there, but it progresses relatively smoothly. The prices for food items on the website may not correlate to the prices in real life, but I don't really hold that against them. This is a nice place to have in the area, and one of the better BBQ places in SoCal.

I was in the store today to buy some fish to make sushi & the fishman suggested the yellowtail, so I bought some. We made sushi rolls & the quality & flavor was sushi bar grade!!! It was soft, sweet & very fresh, no fishy taste or smell. I also bought some ahi tuna & it was good, but yellowtail is my favorite. If you want to treat yourself to homemade sushi, this is where you get the fish.

Everyone knows Green Acres is a great place for high quality meat and catering - but they now feature an extensive craft beer selection and are carrying fine wines not found everywhere - and their prices are fantastic. Couldn't recommend more as the best place to get a good bottle of wine or beer in Simi Valley right now.

We love coming to this place! Wish we live closer to Green Acres. When we're in the area, we stop here to pick up some BBQ beef sandwiches. It is so tasty with the beef marinated in the BBQ sauce inside a sandwich roll. It's good but it is very messy to eat. We also like the tri tip sandwich. You can add the BBQ sauce to the tri tip sandwich. It's kind of neat when you drive by here and see the smoke coming off their BBQ grills. This will make you hungry for anything BBQ. Green Acres is a very small local market with a huge meat counter and a deli counter where you can order your BBQ meal or you can pick up some sliced deli meats from the counter. We love their beans and their potato salad. The staff is very friendly. They also have a nice selection of fruits and vegetables, which is a little better quality than your big chain supermarkets.

Best sandwiches EVER!!!! When I arrived, the aroma enveloped me! I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and bought a bbq beef sandwich. The food did not disappoint. My husband who is a bit on the picky side, loved it. :) Go if you haven't!

Hands down best meat market & deli in Simi. Excellent quality Boars Head brand deli meats, fresh produce and excellent side dishes too. They BBQ outside and you can pick up BBQ tri tip, chicken and pork sandwitches or even a whole tri tip. Deli makes a great italian sub. Try their hand made Cheddar Jalapeno sausages for your next BBQ. They also offer butcher services.

I guess I don't "get" this place. Their beef ribs were tough as hell! I mean I couldn't even cut the meat off of the bone, let alone pull it off. I dont understand what that neon orange crap is on the bread. Anything of that color should not be consumed by a human. My hubby's tri-tip burrito was ground meat that tasted like spam! Plus he wanted salsa for it, and they told him to go inside and by a $5 large container of it. It wouldn't be such a big deal except that he had one burrito, and we had fresh salsa at home. The extra would have went bad. I mean, come on! Don't they realize that salsa should come on a burrito??? We were really looking for a fresh quality place to eat. This was not it, and thankfully we tried it before having them cater our daughters birthday party!

The family and I stop here at least once a week to pick something up for the grill. Tasty everything - chicken kabobs, shrimp skewers, pork fajitas, asada, etc. Pair it up with some fresh garlic bread, corn, grapes etc. They have everything here for a small market. Cant go wrong - all so good!

YES. Green Acres! If you're from Simi, and you haven't eaten here. GTFO. I'm just kidding...just go eat here pronto. :] This is going to sound redundant, but get the tri-tip sandwich, pick a BBQ sauce of your choice and be prepared to have one of the best sub $10 sandwiches you've ever had. Even with a side/bag of chips and a drink, I think it's still under ten bucks for the meal. Dine on the patio, which during the summer has misters to keep you cool. I'm not too sure if they have heat dishes during the winter, but if it's too chilly, just get it to-go.

This place is great! Deli meats are very fresh and top quality as are the salads. We love their barbecue and tri tip sandwiches especially. The market is amazing for their meats, all butchered fresh. They will custom cut/pack almost anything you ask for too. We order a turkey dinner each year for Thanksgiving and it's really delicious. The dressing is better than my homemade!

If you don't like Green Acres, you either hit it on a rare, off-day, or you're just plain mental. Look, we're in California. I have yet to have a decent bit of barbecue anywhere in the state. This is as close as it gets to being good. Not only are their tri-tip sandwiches to die for, inside the store, the prices at their butcher shop are at least as good as a huge grocery store, and about a thousand times better meat!!

I'm not a big fan of BBQ in general, but the sandwiches and burritos have always been great. Its a great option for lunch and the people are nice enough. If you're looking for a GOOD tri tip sandwich (as opposed to dry or just okay), get it at Green Acres. They also have a market attached and they do catering though I've never tried any of their catered foods.

Tried this place out for the first time. Had the tri-tip sandwich which was very good. The meat was tender and cut thin to my liking. I took a bite of my husband's chicken sandwich. The chicken was too dry, even though it was covered in bbq sauce. The staff was very friendly and they kept the outdoor patio area very clean.

OK, I'm going to tell you how to pick out a great steak-- you want a rib eye or a New York, all right? Look for the fat marbling inside the meat, not the fat around the meat- you want a lot of it! Regarding the rib eye (spencer) , get the steaks that have a big fatty (I don't know what to call it) cap or a tail. Same for the steak itself--Let's face it, red meat isn't a health food issue --we want to sink our teeth and taste buds in here!

If you're a juicer or a BBQ'er, this is the place for you to shop. It may be small but everything they have is 100% quality. I love their veggies because their kale is huge & fresh and their beets are cleaned and trimmed. Most of their vegetables are organic and when I use veggies from here in my juicer, my juice just tastes so much better and fresher. Then there's that huge glass case offering everything a BBQ'er could possibly want. We had their jumbo shrimp just a few nights ago and they were great. I always get their pre-made twice baked potatoes often. My honey loves their meat selection. Everything we have ever bought here has been delicious. It's a tad more expensive than the supermarkets but the service and food quality is definitely worth it!

This is the best BBQ in simi. It's a market but they BBQ ribs, tri-tip, cajun sausage, and chicken outside. I usually go for the cajun sausage sandwich or the tri-tip sandwich. The baked beans are pretty good too. Inside the market they have a good selection of quality meats. When we host a party we'll come here and pick up a bunch of chicken and sausages. I'll also occasionally treat myself to their stuffed bell pepper. But nothing I've ever gotten here was bad (or even average).

Rode in on the motorcycle. Service here always great... It's always nice, either the sprinklers are on cause it's too hot or the heaters are on cause it's too breeze. It's never a bad day for BBQ out by the patio. The thing with Green Acres is that all the animals were feed to the best quality of greenery. The meat is as fresh and juicy -- as-- oh wait, it's has no comparison. Picked up a salad cause it's huge, crisp freshness with a side of BBQ'd chicken. Never can finish it but I would NEVER be able to share. It's MINE! Get your own. BBQ ribs, sandwiches, burritos are awesome too! Try their BBQ sauces and spicy bbq sauce.

Green Acres is what general stores used to be like back in the day. In fact it's been around since the 1920's, one of the first groceries in Simi. Now it specializes in meat, and they boast a catering business, and a patio serving awesome bbq options. If you're driving down New LA, you might smell the bbq drifting in your car windows. They're doin it right out front. Although you can order at the patio counter, you can also order inside at the sandwich bar. I'm not sure what the specific differences are between the two, but if you order inside you can check out the sides you can choose from in the glass display cases. Or you can opt for a piece of fruit from the produce section. While the store boasts only 3 isles, 2 of those are made up entirely of produce. And one whole side is meat, anything you can think of they likely have including some seafood options, and ready to make things like stuffed pork chops, or carne asada. Although we ordered at the sandwich counter we ate on the patio anyway, and they had three options for bbq sauce out there and hot sauce. Original, Bold(which I assume is spicey) and Hawaiian, I of course slathered my sandwich in it. The prices were pretty darn reasonable. My tri-tip was $6.75. It boasted thinly sliced beef of a real high quality folded neatly between garlic bread. It was a very good tri-tip sandwich, not the best I've had, but the meat melted in my mouth. My bf got a pulled pork sandwich, which was also very very good. I also bought a pear, which was perfectly ripe and juicy. I wish they wrote where the produce came from, is it local? Is it from Chile? I'd like to know. I didn't really get to do a price check with any other products against a large super market. Although a packet of Driscols raspberries were around $2.70, isn't that less then normal? A neat little market, with a very unique atmosphere, not something you'd expect to find in Simi. I enjoyed my meal, and checking it out. Definitely worth the lunch stop, or if you're going to bbq and you want great quality meat options check it out!

Green acres is the place for me. Farm livin' is the life for me. Land spreadin' out so far and wide Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside. New York is where I'd rather stay. I get allergic smelling hay. I just adore a penthouse view. Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue. ...The chores. ...The stores. ...Fresh air. ...Times Square You are my wife. Good bye, city life. Green Acres we are there. Now that I'm done with the dance and gig, time for the review. I came in from a recommendation from a friend of mine to get a pastrami sandwich. I was completely satisfied. They bbq every Saturday/Sunday chicken, brisket, tri-tip. The smell alone will get you to pull over as you pass by. The pastrami was flavorful, not too fatty, and oh so darn moist. I had mine piled with everything they can throw at it (onions, mustard, pickles, cheese). They even wrapped my sandwich in butcher paper. You can also buy other sides (mac salad, potato salad, and others) as they're basically a deli/store/bbq/butcher shop. Ugh, I want one now. They also cater!

I personally get the tri tip sandwiches, and beef ribs. The ribs are a must! If you get the meal, it comes with some chili soup, Cole slaw, and garlic bread. I love the garlic bread.

  • Megan M.

Another quantity over quality place. We've been driving by it for years and it always had a lunch line on the weekends. This day, full of excitement, we stopped. The first thing that hit me was the price were really expensive, but I explained that away because it must be really good then, right?. Not so. The food was fatty and bland. No matter how much complementary BBQ sauce I tried to dunk the meat in, it didn't help. I'm not sure why those people are there, but it can't be for the taste.

Great little market! Have been coming here for many years. BEST place to get fresh meats, poultry, fruits and veggies. The deli section has a great selection. And, YES! the BBQ sandwiches are tremendous. Only wish they had longer hours.

Been shopping at Green Acres since the early 70's. Love the butcher shop, the produce is excellent & really farm fresh! Other grocery items are pricey but this is not your typical grocery store! The bar-b-que is great, good quality, excellent taste/seasonings, marinated chicken kabobs are wonderful, all the sausages are great, the garlic pasta is out of this world (eat it cold or warmed up). The catering service is wonderful too! Can't boast enough about this place. Our family favorite and never disappointed!!!!

  • R P.

I LOVE this place! Service is great, people are friendly, food is RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME!!! Go hungry, get anything on the menu, you won't be disappointed! Only down side is that all the seating is outside, so it can get hot in the summer, cold in the winter. With that said, the food is worth suffering the weather for!

Tri tip sandwich and side of chili and you're all set. You won't be disappointed! Enuf said... Probably my favorite tri tip sandwich place next to Firestone Grill in San Luis Obispo.

  • Jamie C.

Some of the best tri-tip in Ventura County. Outshines Woodranch by far. Pork bbq sandwiches ok, but the go for the tri-tip with a side of beans. You can ride a bike there easily using the arroyo bike path either from the Simi Valley train station or the Madera Rd. trail head. Take the side trail towared LA Ave when you get the the wooden bridge.

  • Matt C.

The Tri-Tip sandwich is as good as people are saying. Also, they give it to you within 3 min of ordering, which is awesome (they are cooking tri tip all day long). Their meat-market stuff is outstanding, too. I go here to buy my meat on special occasions or when I've got money burning in pocket.

  • PUFF S.

green acres is a small meat/grocery store that shines above the rest because they have really really good meat...All of hteir meat is top quality...everything from their steaks, ribs, of coures to their chicken. I try to talk my friends into going to Green Acres and BBQing whenever I am in Simi. I lgenerally ike pork more than beef, and beef more than chicken...but in this case, I reaLLy like the Chicken from Green Acres. I must say that they have some of the best chicken I have had! Very juicy and tender. The store only stocks high quality food, and is more expensive than the average market, but I don't care because their stuff is really worth it....its a small price to pay for excellent meat!

  • Bruce B.

Yes. This is what a meat market, deli, sandwich shop should be. I used to make this a regular lunch stop when I worked in Simi. I would stop for A freshly bbq'd tri tip sandwich... or step inside to the amazing butcher shop that will make you a fantastic Roast beef / Cheddar sub sandwich that will put corporate fodder to shame. Support this place, America will be better for it.

The tri-tip sandwiches here are VERY good. If you love the taste of meat, then you'll love these sandwiches. Tender, flavorful and lots of meat. This place is a market that has an outdoor BBQ. It has the feel of a familty BBQ. The food is nothing fancy, but very good and well cooked.

    (4)
  • Scott M.

I love the chicken sandwich at this place. However, I have to remember to order it with onion, lettuce and tomato. Otherwise you get just chicken on a garlic toast roll. Great place to grab a quick bite to eat outdoors on a weekend afternoon. Everyone swears by the Tri-tip but i can't seem to get past chicken when I'm there. Try the hot sauce for that little extra kick.

    (5)
  • Dan G.

Great selection of meat and poultry - probably the best quality and cuts in Simi. Fish selection is minimal. Produce and other item selection is also limited. Wine selection is good but a little pricey. I usually go here for the butcher only but it's convenient for a quick stop to pick up something for dinner on the way home. It's small so easy to get in and out of. The employees are friendly and helpful also.

Nice outside eating area with open grill and a well stocked but small market adjacent. As usual, my friends and I decided to try a new place for lunch. We liked it. We sat outside and enjoyed our food, had some good conversation. A friend and I split some food we purchased from the market, eating it picnic style spread out on the table. Sliced turkey with bread and provolone cheese, some marinated olives and artichokes, and a bean salad on the side. We accompanied it with some barbecue sauce which was available along with napkins and utensils on a table set up near the grill. Another of our friends had a Grilled BBQ Chicken sandwich, which he seemed to enjoy. What really blew me away at this place was the well stocked butchers counter with marinated meats and fresh fish offered by those guys from 'Ocean Fresh' that closed their doors awhile ago. Which was a shame cuz it seemed like the only place in Simi to get great quality fish. Up til today I had really wondered where they went... well search no more they're here at Green Acres.

Wow, this place is the real deal. This review covers the meaty offerings they have on their Patio during lunch. I literally have zero complaints about this place, let's break it down. The service is excellent, it's always the same guy (wish I knew his name) and he's EXTREMELY nice, makes it a pleasure coming here. They do not cheap out on ingredients or quantity yet still have very reasonable prices. I got a Coke, Chili, and a tri-tip sandwich. They pleasantly offer an open fountain machine so you can refill all you want and put as little ice in as you want, which is huge for me. Unlike most chilies theirs was not just a bunch of beans with little else. There was a generous amount of ground beef mixed with pleasant spices and vegetables. Now for the most important part. The delicious tri-tip sandwich. Each piece of the sandwich in itself is great, and when put together, divine. The bread is a delicious toasted garlic bread, unlike any that I've tasted. Not sure what they add to it, but you'll love it. The tri-tip is great as well with perfect consistency and expertly seasoned. Finally you just add the barbecue sauce of your choice out of a selection of three. Personally, I go for the Bold & Zesty. It's very sweet so you don't want to apply too much, but it tops off the whole experience. I definitely recommend giving Green Acres a visit.

I love this place. I have been shopping t Green Acres for a couple of decades and the place is always consistent and the quality is awesome. I have to admit that I always considered it a market, not a restaurant, but have had many sandwiches of all sorts over the years and have never been disappointed. The Tri Tip sandwiches are awesome and as several have noted, their Chili Beans are to die for. I find their BBQ sauce too sweet, but it's ok as I usually get the sandwich to go and add my own at home as I live close by. What really draws me in is the meat counter and deli section. Their meat counter is second to none. Everything is top quality (and you pay for it). I absolutely love to get their beef and chicken kabobs for a fast and easy BBQ dinner. The steaks are sublime. The fresh made sausages are awesome! It's also the only place in Simi to get a full selection of Boar's Head cold cuts and cheeses. A couple of years ago they merged with a small local fish monger and the quality of seafood available is fantastic. As I'm typing this review, my mouth is watering just thinking about the place and I'm looking at the clock and counting down the time until they open as I need to go stock up for the weekend. Highly recommended!

no one does it better. really i don't even know where to start....soo lets go for the tri tip sandwich get two to-go cups of sauce, pour one on and dip with the other= the best.. i don't know if its just the ambiance of seeing your meat cooked then slabbed on the garlic bread sub and having the freedom to pump as much bbq sauce as you want on it but i can swear by it. top on the list of my family's food indulgences and that's just the quick lunch. its a little market with all the food necessities but Ive never really bought the produce Ive always gone straight to the case.. THE BEST twice baked potatoes, teryaki beef skewers, chicken kebabs, garlic bread spread (what they put on the tritip sandys, probably the best garlic bread spread Ive ever tasted), and really any bbqing staple you need..

Green Acres is like a two for one special, they are a great local market with the freshest meats, and they have a little "restaurant" on the side of it. They have THE BEST, hands down, best tri-tip sandwiches in so-cal! The bread doubles as your garlic bread and it's so delicious. They have their own BBQ sauces but they also have this roasted garlic chili sauce that when mixed with the BBQ gives it that extra bite that really sets this sandwich apart.

  • SoCal Mom D.

Green Acres is a wonderful butcher shop & is my favorite spot in town for buying quality meats. Their BBQ sandwiches are to DIE FOR & they have an extremely friendly & laid-back staff. The only reason this gets 4 instead of 5 stars is that I wish they offered more free-range & antibiotic-free meats as well as grass-fed beef. As I try to shift my family's diet to more healthfully & humanely derived meat products, I find that very few local shops offer this.

  • Kyle L.

I have been visiting this place since the early 90s and the BBQ has always been the best in Simi Valley. They smoke all their meat outside and butcher inside. The food is always fresh and delicious - a Simi favorite.

Ever try eating at this place within the last two hours of it being open? I hadn't either. As I walked up I noticed the usually bustling patio was vacant for the most part but a very friendly employee sorting the cash register directed me inside where I could "order anything." That's pretty much what I expected, considering it was around 5:00 PM and they close at 7:00. I went inside and while it didn't take long to get the attention of the clerks behind the deli counter, they hesitantly and unenthusiasticly assisted my girlfriend and I. I don't expect or desire anyone serving me to very excited but I certainly don't want to feel like I'm interrupting anything or asking anyone favors. I work in food service, I know what it feels like for someone to come in at the last minute and act completely aloof but It was FAR from closing time and I was very polite. I ordered one tri-tip burrito and after about 10 minutes he presented two. I didn't want to waste the other one so I told him it was okay and instead of splitting one with my girlfriend we'd each have our own. That was a huge mistake. We paid about twenty dollars for the burritos and some 7-up and went to sit at the patio. The burritos were ice cold and slopped together unevenly. I took about four bites before crumpling up the heaping mess of chilled refried beans and stale rice. It was totally unappetizing and the message from the staff was loud and clear: fuck off. I understand this place has years of excellent service to stand behind but give me a break, this kind of passive-aggressive service is obnoxious and demoralizing. I'm sure they still do what they do best around 2:00 PM but I would AVOID this place around 5:00 unless you're grocery shopping.

jocked a little too much, but still a great sandwich shop. i dont think anyone will be disappointed here, but with all the 4 and 5 stars i was expecting weak knees and a cigarette after. well, i never have smoked and didnt start after eating here either...my knees shook a little, but i think its because im gaining weight. cool market though and nice selection of meat if you bbq yourself

I live close, so this place is convenient for me. The BBQ tri-tip is good, get a tri tip burrito, not a sandwich --tastes way better. Pass on the chicken, it is never cooked enough. The meat counter inside is great! I like to buy whole chickens there and big beef bones for my dog. Pay attention to the price you get charged, they makes mistakes in their favor all the time. Finally, the older women inside who work the cash registers are very bitchy--lifers for sure--I'd be mad too if I were an adult working in a place like that--when did life decide to dump on me.

Now this place has it all. It's the best food in all of Ventura County. Everything from the tri tip sandwiches to the salads are amazing they really got their stuff together in helping the customers in providing the freshest ingredients locally. It's a really amazing atmosphere when you walk in and see all the fresh produce and of course you cannot miss the BBQ outside of the place you could smell it from a mile away yum yum yum.l!! I love Green Acres and I am a loyal customer for life!

This is the best place to buy sushi grade fish and make sushi at home. I usually just buy the sushi grade ahi tuna, but this week I asked about other kinds of fish and it turns out they have all sorts of stuff frozen in the back not in the counter. I got a fillet of yellowtail, and omg it just melted in my mouth. Perfect sushi grade fish. For those wondering, most sushi grade fish is frozen, including the fish you get at restaurants. Don't be thrown off by it being frozen. I also got a vacuum sealed pack of fresh water eel. Completely restaurant quality. I know everyone comes here for the meats and BBQ, but if you are a sushi lover, you need to start going to the ocean fresh seafood counter.

Amazing... We hired Green Acres for our wedding this past Fourth of July and all our family and friends were ecstatic about the food and raved about the amazing staff. They took care of everything . Being that we are from The South Bay Area not to many people know about this place but after our special day I'm sure several of our guest will be going to eat there again .... Many thanks to green acres and your staff ... Mike & Kim Witmer
